Education Matters More than ever Before

School drags up fond and strange feelings for us all. If you’re anything like me, memories of my K-12 experience are full of dread, regret, and mountaintop moments.

My first kiss was in high school. So was my first breakup.

My first standing ovation as a performer was in high school. As were dismal performance failures.

Fortunately, I had the opportunity to learn in individualized settings. For this reason, I grew to enjoy school and developed an innate curiosity.

Not everyone is so lucky. I’m aware of this. Many felt inadequate due to the words of teachers and classmates. Others got bullied and teased. Some had issues in their home life that made it impossible to thrive in school.

If this was you, I’m sorry. As an adult, you can reclaim the curiosity you were born with. Learning to learn again is incredibly empowering.

If you’re an educator, parent, or mentor, you can encourage young people. A kind word and a validation of their interests go a long way.

I recently had the privilege to join my friend, Bryan Zevotek, on his podcast “Kick Some Class.” We talk about how my individualized education experiences enabled me to move into new industries.

A key reason I have been able to shift careers (copywriting, higher education, sales, music, ministry) is because of the education I received.

Bryan is a longtime educator and coach. He’s goofy, empathetic, and smart. Whether you’re a teacher, parent of school-age children, or lifelong learner, you’ll enjoy his podcast.

Listen to our conversation here or wherever you consume your pods. Have fun tuning in and let me know what you think!
